Peacock Bass Fishing
Aggressive, hard hitting, drag pulling and absolutely beautiful. That pretty much sums up the Butterfly Peacock Bass.
If you looking for a battle on a rod and reel, this is the fish for you.
The peacock bass was introduced to South Florida in the 1980's by the Florida Wildlife Commission to control invasive species of fish. And while it is not actually a bass at all but a member of the cichlid family, they can grow quite large. Typical peacock bass can range from a pound or two to over 8 pounds, with a non certified weight of 12 pounds (the fish was not officially submitted for a state record.)
While no two trips are the same, a typical day fishing in the glades can possibly boat 20 to 60 or more fish.
All of the trips I run are shiner (live bait) trips as they usually produce more fish for a more successful trip. I do however have a variety of topwater lures and other baits if you want to try your hand with them.
